IMPORTANT: If you try to make a reservation online and are told that there are no more rooms in the MSS block, try choosing a different type of room. It may be that only one type of room is sold out.
Saving rooms for friends and colleagues – why not?
You like to help out friends and colleagues. So you call the MSS annual meeting hotel and make reservations for your own room, and while you’re at it, you reserve rooms for five or six colleagues as well. Heck, you can always cancel the rooms a couple of days before the conference, right? WRONG.
When rooms are reserved for persons who choose, later, not to attend, meeting participants who could have used that room may be turned away. This happened in Omaha, where several attendees reserved multiple rooms. Several MSS members who called near the cutoff date were unable to book a room at the conference hotel. When the overbooked rooms were cancelled at the last minute, everybody was unhappy: Members who had been turned away were unhappily housed in faraway hotels. The hotel was unhappy because empty rooms mean lost revenue. And MSS came dangerously close to not being able to fulfill our room block contract – which would have resulted in a steep financial penalty.
Please - reserve a room only for the nights you will attend and honor your reservation. If an emergency dictates that you must cancel, please do so at the earliest possible date and well before the March 6 cutoff date, so that the room may be filled by another conference-goer.
As of this moment - Friday, Feb. 8 - we have filled all our blocked rooms for Wednesday, March 26, only. [There are still rooms available for March 27-30.] I have requested more rooms be added to our block for March 26; and if the hotel has the rooms available, they will do what they can do accommodate our additional requests. However, I am not likely to get an answer to this request before Monday. If you would like to make a reservation within the block, please go ahead and make reservations for the period beginning on Thursday, March 27, and add the Wednesday reservation later when/if we receive more rooms.
