TOUR # 1* History and Revitalization of Old North St. Louis
Although the focus will be on the city’s North Side, we will also glimpse old industrial St. Louis and learn about issues related to rural to urban poverty and elite land use. We will have a briefing on re-vitalization efforts at the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group (ONSLRG) and walk though a re-development area.

TOUR # 2* East St. Louis and the Struggle for Success (A)
A driving tour through three East St. Louis, Illinois neighborhoods (Emerson Park, Lansdowne, and Olivette Park), will include stops at a former industrial site and the Emerson Park Development Corporation and the Tomorrow’s Builders Charter School. Briefings will focus on East St. Louis’ paths to re-vitalization.

Join us for food and fun in South St. Louis and Soulard, including the Venice café and an exploration of the pubs and haunts on Geyer Street. John Farley, former MSS president, will lead us as he re-creates his famous MSS and SAS pub crawl. We will also learn about the changing urban landscape surrounding downtown St. Louis!

About Face Youth Theatre from Chicago will perform
In a first for the MSS annual meetings, a plenary performance by a theatre group will take place. The About Face Youth Theatre, Chicago’s award-winning arts-based program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning youth and their allies, will perform “The Home Project.”
About Face Theatre offers a full main stage season each year, engaging youth in the rigorous process of creating and performing an ensemble-based play in collaboration with a community of accomplished adult artists.
About Face Youth Theatre has been honored by the Mayor of Chicago and Chicago’s LGBT community through induction into the city’s Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. About Face is also a recipient of the prestigious Human First Award by Horizon’s Community Services and was one of just five organizations in the United States to receive a major capacity-building grant from The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.

lecture, followed by MCSRA meeting
Professor Neena L. Chappell, Victoria University, B.C., will present a special lecture on “Betty Havens and the Development of Social Gerontology.” MCSRA alumni and others interested in research on aging are invited to attend a MCSRA discussion following Dr. Chappell’s lecture to discuss procedures for the proposed Betty Havens Student Scholarship Prize.
