The Teaching and Learning Workshop – a workshop from Alpha Kappa Delta
The AKD Workshop is open to all attendees of the MSS Annual Meeting.
This AKD workshop is intended to help teachers of sociology collaborate in addressing two major issues that form the themes for the workshop. First, workshop attendees will address strategies for sociological learning through active engagement. Engagement strategies will be directed toward mastery of sociological concepts, development of sociological thinking and acquisition of sociological problem-solving skills. Second, attendees will collaborate in tackling issues of work-life balance by addressing strategies for balancing required teaching, research and professional development activities with personal/family lives to avoid early burn-out in the profession.

Topic: Strategies for Engaged Learning in Sociology
A. Olu Oyinlade, University of Nebraska, Omaha.
This thematic workshop will discuss and involve workshop participants in collaboratively identifying and discussing various purposeful strategies for engaging sociology students in active learning. Engagement strategies will span across class levels, class sizes and optimal levels of engagement.
