St. Louis Public Library & Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis

This tour takes us to two iconic works of public architecture in St. Louis. Pictures simply don't do either justice, so consider seeing these for yourself!

First we visit the St. Louis Library Central Branch, meeting our docent at 9:30AM. Donated by Andrew Carnegie and designed by Cass Gilbert in the Beaux-Arts style, embellishments of Renaissance and Baroque are centered around the Great Hall with dramatic cascades of staircases.

We next visit the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, built from 1907-1914 in Romanesque Revival and Neo-Byzantine style. Every inch of it’s spectacular 83,000 square-foot ceiling is covered from floor to ceiling with one of the largest collections of mosaics in the world. Tour will be self-guided with maps provided.  You may decide to walk  about 15-20  minutes back to the hotel.

 

 

 

A Tour into the Future of Virtual Learning and Sociology

Join us for an experience you won't soon forget! Virtual learning, while highly utilized in STEM fields, can also be used to enhance the student learning experience for sociology students as well. What better way to CARE about your society than to see and feel the impact we have on our environment? Dr. Vicky Herbel, Professor of Sociology at St. Charles Community College will guide you through the Dreamscape Learn virtual classroom where she will be teaching topics related to environmental sociology using virtual reality technology. You will also have a chance to explore the Dreamscape Learn free roam virtual reality experience which will leaving you saying, "THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!" The future is here and St. Charles Community College is leading the way in their Center for Immersive Learning.

The tour bus will leave the hotel Saturday, March 28th at 8:00am and arrive at St. Charles Community College by 8:45am. Starting at 9:00am the immersive learning experiences will begin.

At 11:15am you will board the tour bus to return to the hotel no later than 12:00pm.
