The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Criminology position to begin August 2027.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the program’s curriculum. This position carries a teaching load of five courses per year while maintaining an active research agenda in the candidate’s specialization area. Faculty members are expected to be actively engaged in research and to provide service to the department, college, university, and discipline. The successful candidate will have the potential for innovation and leadership in teaching, research and service.

The Department of Sociology invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Criminology to meet the needs of our growing department, beginning in Fall 2027. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology, or a closely related field, by the time of appointment. A J.D. or DCJ degree alone is not sufficient for this position. In addition to teaching general sociology courses, the successful candidate must be able to teach lower- and upper-level courses in criminology, sociology, and criminal justice.
The candidate should also have evidence of excellent teaching and scholarly productivity, experiential learning, and community/public engagement. Scholars who can support a focus on social inequalities are strongly encouraged to apply.
